On Turning Down ‘Vinyl Releases’ That Were Never Mixed for Vinyl

May 22, 2026 · 1 min read

We get pitched a lot of finished records that are described as “ready for vinyl” — meaning a WAV file exists. That’s not the same thing as a record that was actually considered as a physical object during the mixing process.

We’ve started asking two questions before we take on a release: was the low end mixed with mono compatibility in mind, and is there a mix stem session we can actually revisit if the cut doesn’t translate. If the answer to either is no, we usually pass, or we ask for a remix pass before we commit a catalog number.

New releases, first pressings, restock alerts. No spam, twice a month at most.
